If you are having problems with your research, need help with finding information on the Internet, need to refer to the Branch resources or just want a bit of reassurance that you are on the right track, why not call in to our new drop-in help facility in the Landmark Centre. We are open from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. every Saturday morning from September through July (except between Christmas and New Year). Members of the Branch Committee and volunteers will be on hand to give help and advice. Open to members and non-members. The Centre is proving a great success, with considerable numbers of both members and non-members making use of the facilities every week. Thanks to those members who have given their time every week to make this new venture a success. Landmark Centre The Landmark Centre is housed in a redundant church in Deal High Street, on the corner of Union Road, just a few yards from the Wesley Hall and adjacent to the Saturday Market and car park. The main church has recently been converted and contains a cafe, Tourist Information Centre, an IT suite and the new KFHS Deal Branch drop-in centre. Resources The new drop-in centre is equipped with a computer with Internet access and a microfiche reader. The Branch holds a number of resources in the form of microfiche, etc. Details of the resources available at the drop-in centre will be posted here as they become available. Two portable microfiche readers are available for use by members and may be borrowed from the drop-in centre against a deposit. We have a number of fiche relating to St Leonard's Church, Walmer, donated by a Society member. We have also obtained copies of the British Isles Vital Records Index and the 1891 London Census on CD. Another recent donation was a set of carbon copies of transcriptions of local parish registers carried out by the late Josephine Dalton. Please ask for details at the branch meetings or at the drop-in centre. |
